Most recently, the Great Glen Way in Scotland. This is a popular walk through relatively remote (under served) area bookended by well served “tourist” towns of Fort William and Inverness. Accomodations and local guidance were excellent and consistent, especially considering the demand.

I have now done four or five sole, self-guided walks with Mickledore. Always timely, professional responses. All is “as advertised”. I would argue that accomodations typically exceed expectations. Traveling from overseas (and often coupling walking trip with business trip) so response and meeting expectations are critical.

Holiday rating

We followed St Oswald’s Way from Holy Island in Northumberland to Heavenfield on Hadrian’s Wall Path. The walk from Holy Island to Warkworth followed the coastal path, taking in beautiful scenery and magnificent castles. From Warkworth, we headed inland, through the Cheviots and down to the Hadrian’s Wall Path.

Company rating

Accommodation, breakfast, packed lunches, and luggage transfer were all organised for us by Mickledore so that all we had to do was walk and source our own evening meal. The B&Bs were, without exception, really good, plus Mickledore provided all the information we needed, including where to eat en route and all other local services. It was a beautiful walk, made even more enjoyable because it was completely stress-free.

Holiday rating

We walked from the source of the Thames at Kemble through to Marlow. Was during the heatwave so very hot, but we made it! Good accommodation throughout, though a couple were a long way from the trail after a days walk when closer options were clearly available. Path is well maintained and easy to follow, but with a couple of significant detours approaching Henley and Marlow that are somewhat tedious!

Our 9th or so walk with Mickledore. Always easy to deal with, efficient in booking and provide very good service. Our only gripe this time was the distance we had to walk from the trail to our accomodation on 2 days, and on one of these there was no option for an evening meal without a taxi both ways. Also disappointing that Mickledore did not respond to my email about these on return. So room for improvement on this front.
